Club Update - April 2022

On the eve of the 2022 cricket season, we're delighted to share our April update.

Start of season party - 19:30, Saturday 23rd April

To start the season with a bang, we're having a party!

- Live music from 'The Bazz Band'
- Hot food (Cheese & Onion Pie, Chicken Curry, Meat & Potato Pie)
- Bar open all day until 23:30

Tickets are available to purchase at the bar all this week and on the night itself.

£5 for members and £7 for non-members.

Cricket Update

Seniors

Both the 1st & 2nd teams take on local rivals Dukinfield this coming Saturday. The 1st XI travel to King Street, whilst the 2nd XI are at the Sapphire Cricket Ground (SCG). Both games will start at 12:30

The 3rd team get their pre-season underway on Sunday, with a friendly away to Saddleworth. Start time TBC. The 4th Team have a friendly on Sunday 8th May, away at Toft.

We took a 14 man squad to Hadfield on Saturday just gone, which was an excellent way to blow off the cobwebs. A "loss" on paper, but with bowlers rotated and time in the middle for batsmen, it was a very useful outing.

Juniors

The juniors continue Friday night practice this week, with registration from 17:30 and session start 18:00.

Junior fixtures have now been released, and are available to view on the website here.

Womens

The womens team are hosting a a tournament on Monday 2nd May, which will begin at 11am, with the bar open from 12:00. There will be a pizza van on site too!

Monthly Quiz Night - 20:00 on the first Saturday of every month
Gin Festival - Friday 3rd June to Sunday 5th June (more information to follow soon)
Open Mic Night - 2nd Friday of every month, from 20:30
Race Night - Saturday 20th August, 20:00

Nigel Corless Elected Club Chair; Stephen Scott To Lead Junior Section

Mottram Cricket Club is pleased to confirm that Nigel Corless has been elected as the new club chair , following a vote of members at an EGM on Monday 10th August. Nigel now takes over the position from Ayrton Fielding, who has stepped away from the role due to family and work commitments. The committee would like to thank Graham Holt for also standing to be Chair. Graham is a life member, who has previously held the Chair and President roles at the club. Nigel is a well-known face around the club who was already serving on the Committee as Grounds and Facilities Lead. He is also lead coach of our Women’s Team and a regular member of our Over 40’s team. Speaking to members at the EGM, Nigel said: "Being chair of this club is a privilege and a huge responsibility. It is not just about standing at the front and directing, but standing behind the club and ensuring it thrives for future generations . We have 7 seniors teams, including 2 women's teams and a growing, successful junior section. I think with some further developments, on and off the field, we can realise the full potential of our club and create a legacy that lasts well beyond any single season ." Stephen Scott was also confirmed as the new Junior Cricket Lead at the EGM. Stephen is the current 4th XI captain and will continue in this role alongside his new role with the junior set-up. He replaces Chris Green-Buckley who remains 3rd XI captain but has stepped down from the junior role due to increased work committments On being confirmed in the role, Stephen said: "I am very excited and proud to be taking up this role. I have seen first hand as 4th XI captain and a parent, the good work that has gone into the junior set-up over the past few years. I am looking forward to getting stuck in and helping take it to new heights. Thank you to Chris for his hard work and leaving it in an exciting position."
